Old School meets new School - Barry Grant Carburetors and Intakes

Lets take a quick look at some old school style products from Barry Grant.

Founded in 1984, Barry Grant, Inc. specializes in the design and production of induction products for the performance and racing industry. Barry Grant, Inc. is the home of Demon Carburetion; BG Fuel Systems; Nitrous Works; Triple-D Induction; and Rush Performance Filters.

Demon carburetors are establishing new standards in performance. Different by design, race-winning Race Demons and King Demons by Barry Grant deliver performance on the track, while Road Demons and Speed Demon carbs deliver power and superb drivability on the street. Also available are the Mighty Demon carburetor, Crate Engine Demons, 2-barrel Demons, and Marine Demon carburetors.

Triple-D Induction recently introduced the Six Shooter, a 3-deuce carburetor system for Chevy Small-block and Big-block engines. Six Shooters for the Small-block Ford, Ford FE and Pontiac engines are now available.

The Demon 98

The Demon 98 is a retro two-barrel high-performance carburetor that fits the thirties-style three-bolt intake manifolds of vintage engines: Flathead, Y-block, Hemi, or Nail-head. It is a replacement for the Stromberg 97 or the Holley 94.

  • Compact side-hung float bowls promote multi-carb installations. Though the Demon 98 can be employed singly, it is usually configured in multiples of three.
  • Carburetor towers accept 2-5/8-inch period-style air cleaners or air horns.
  • The '98' is available in two configurations: one functions as a primary carburetor with choke mountings (either electrical or mechanical), an idle-speed adjustment, and an idle-mixture adjustment. The other operates as a secondary carburetor with neither choke-mounting facility nor idle-mixture adjustment. This arrangement is similar to the successful Triple-D SixShooter induction system.
  • Each Demon 98 carburetor is rated around 205 cfm with fuel bowls operating at 6 to 7 psi of fuel pressure
  • Uses commonly available service parts, including standard fuel bowl and metering-block gaskets, jets, power valve, needle-and-seat assemblies, air bleeds, and accelerator-pump diaphragms and nozzles (squirters).
  • The '98' achieves higher performance by using contemporary designs of air-entries, air-fuel circuits, and boost venturii. Accelerator-pump circuits have interchangeable nozzles (squirters): the wilder the camshaft, the greater the need for larger accelerator-pump nozzles. Adjustable air bleeds provide a means to adjust fuel curves; thereby, improving throttle-response, fuel economy, and power output. The removable carburetor tower provides easy access to these components.
  • Progressive linkage kits are available in varied rod lengths to accommodate different manifolds and numbers of carburetors.
  • The chief differences between the Demon 98 and the Stromberg 97 include the design of the acceleratorpump mechanism and the operating fuel pressure. The Demon 98 accelerator-pump arrangement has interchangeable nozzles, which can be switched to suit newer designs of camshaft, cylinder heads, and intake manifolds. The operating fuel pressure of the Demon 98 is around 6 - 7 lb. per inch compared with 3 - 4 lb. per inch of the Stromberg.
  • The Demon 98 is available in a standard gold retro look. An optional chrome finish will be available at a later date.

Demon 98 Triple Deuce Intake

Responding to requests from rodders, Barry Grant Inc’s Triple D Induction has just released two new Demon 98 Triple Deuce intake packages for the small block Chevy. Three Demon 98 3-bolt 2-barrel carburetors are combined with the latest intake manifold technology for a bold yet classic old skool look with excellent performance and drivability.

Though classic in appearance, the Demon 98 is a modern high-performance interpretation of the vintage two-barrel carburetors that were used throughout the fifties and early sixties. All three of the Demon 98 carburetors have both idle-speed and idle-mixture adjustments for precise tuning. Each carburetor flows approximately 205 cfm and accepts 2-5/8” period-style air cleaners or air horns. Float bowls are fitted with a glass sight window and operate with fuel pressure of 6 to 7 PSI – pressure that would overwhelm the needle valves in the old 97s. The 98s use many commonly available service parts, including standard fuel bowl and metering-block gaskets, jets, power valves, needle-and- seat assemblies, air bleeds, and accelerator-pump diaphragms and nozzles, (squirters), that can be easily swapped to suit more aggressive camshafts and cylinder heads with larger ports.

Old School Six Shooter for Small Block Ford 302

To satisfy the Traditional sector of the Hotrod market, Barry Grant has released an Old-School version of the Triple-D SixShooter induction system. Suitable for a wide range of engines, this nostalgic, triple 2-barrel induction package—the first of its type in over 30 years—includes an advanced Triple-D intake manifold; three Demon carburetors finished in gold chromate with red fuel lines and chrome fuel log; and three period-style Rush air cleaners. Delivering stout performance and equipped with an electric choke, the SixShooter is simple to tune, just three controls, two for idle mixture and one idle speed.

Six Duece Induction For Small Block Fords

Triple D Induction has announced a six deuce induction system for Ford small block engines from the Windsor family, including the 289/302/347 and 351W engines. The system uses six two-barrel Demon 98 carburetors with dual progressive linkages for an easy setup.

Featuring the Efficient & Powerful AeroRam Intake Manifold Six Deuce Induction for the popular Ford Small Block 289 / 302 / 347 engines. It will also fit the 351W-based engines with the use of manifold adapter plates. With wild looks and ultimate performance, the Six Deuce will demand attention from the most seasoned automotive enthusiast, be it at the track, on the street, or on the show field. Featuring six proven and reliable Demon 98 Carburetors perched atop the AeroRam Intake Manifold, this package includes dual progressive linkages for easy setup and operation. Cruise around using the center 2 carbs, and open up the 4 outer carbs when you feel the “Need for Speed”

You can choose from traditional red fuel hoses with chrome fuel blocks (PN 9818), or go high tech with the billet fuel rail system (PN 9819). Both kits use the latest intake manifold technology only available with the AeroRam intake Manifold for an “In Your Face” look that is actually a pleasure to drive.

  • Features six Demon 98 two barrel carburetors
  • AeroRam intake manifold
  • Dual progressive linkages for easy setup and operation
